Puppetry is an art form with traditions dating back through the centuries in nations all over the world. In many cultures, puppetry is not only a form of entertainment, but a way of teaching traditions and religions, of communicating and expressing the views of the people, a way to keep the culture alive. The view of puppetry as merely children’s entertainment is a relatively recent trend in western civilization.
Today, puppetry is endangered in several countries. There are fewer people among the younger generations willing to carry on the traditions of the puppet performers and craftspersons.
